How did your career begin?
My career began in Switzerland almost 16 years ago. I was a fan when I was a kid and when I found a chance to train I was like, why not? I fell in love and started traveling all over Europe to train and perform. I moved to the U.S. in 2004 and started all over again, before signing with WWE in 2011.
What do most people not realize about training for WWE?
Most people don’t realize that we perform at 4-5 shows every week. There are two touring groups every weekend, one doing Friday, Saturday, Sunday and one doing Saturday and Sunday. Then we meet on Monday and film two days of TV Monday and Tuesday. We also tour all over the world, for example two week tours through Europe where we perform every night. We train in the gym on top of that. So it’s a very demanding schedule. There is also no off season since we have a live RAW every Monday.
We are responsible for staying in shape, so we do our own workouts. Everyone trains differently. I’m very into weightlifting at the moment. Seth Rollins is our CrossFit guy. And there are of course the guys who train bodybuilding style as well. You need to find something that works for you and something that you can keep up despite the crazy schedule.
What are your greatest achievements in WWE?
I would say winning the first ever Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30. Winning the Tag Team Championships with Tyson Kidd was a great too. And winning the US Championship within the first year of my career.
I’m most proud of the Cesaro Section. That’s something the fans started for me. They just printed out simple papers that said ‘Cesaro Section,’ on them. It originated in Nashville and spread all over. There were over 7,000 in San Jose once. It means a lot to me because that was during a time when I was kind of down and unsure if I was doing the right thing and I was trying to get some momentum going. That support means the world to me. So I always work extra hard to make the Cesaro Section proud.
What do you do when you have free time?
I don’t have that much free time. But I love to watch movies, listen to music and work out. Sometimes working out is the only me time I get in a day. I also enjoy mowing the grass when I’m home, I got a sweet riding mower. I just enjoy nature and zone out for a bit.
Well, aside from working out and traveling, I’d say coffee. I’m a huge coffee fanatic and always try to find nice local coffee shops wherever we travel. Listening to music too, just because I do it all the time.
If you could only eat one thing for a month, what would it be?
Chipotle. Because that’s basically all I eat when I’m on the road. Bowl, brown rice, black beans, double chicken, guac, times three and a salad…
Do you have any recovery routines? What products do you use?
I try to get my sleep in every night. Which can be hard with the schedule we have but sleep is very important to me. I use the Marc Pro for muscle stimulation, ICE 20 and of course RockTape to keep my shoulder healthy (I had rotator cuff surgery last November), and I use Progenex and Onnit supplements.
How did you find out about RockTape?
My buddy (Finn Balor) told me he uses kinesio tape for his knee and I should try it on my shoulder. Also the trainers at the WWE Performance Center, which is the training center for aspiring WWE Superstars, where I did my rehab would use it to get swelling down. So I tried it one day and loved it.
I tried a few different brands but liked RockTape the most because of the support and that it doesn’t come off when I sweat and do the things I do in the ring.
How do you use RockTape?
I use it to support my shoulder. I had rotator cuff surgery last November and it helps my posture and puts my shoulder in the right place. It also gives me that added stability. It’s there and helps even when I don’t think about it. Thanks to that added stability I don’t have to worry about anything. I’ve also used it on my upper back before as well and it helped relieve tension.
What do most people not know about you?
I can sew. I made my own gear before WWE and even some of my first trunks in WWE.
The therapist I am going to after my surgery on my RC, Labrum tear, and Bicep Relocation began to use RockTape on my shoulder today. She told me that if I was going to buy any kind of Kinesiology tape she highly recommended RockTape. It has only been on for a short time but it is there to help draw posture and support in my shoulder. To the RockTape team I say thank you.
We love to hear feedback like this! Thanks for your support Chris 🙂
